Our History

Cosperville Baptist Church dates from the actual organization in 1873, however, the foundation was laid by the Freewill Baptist preachers in northeastern Indiana during th early 1840's.  In the summer of 1875 a small house of worship was built, where the cemetary is now located.  Soon the need for a larger building became apparent, and the current facility was dedicated on December 23, 1900.

This early church was associated with the Freewill Baptist churches in the territory.  In April 1950 the membership voted to withdraw from the organization.  We now remain an independant Baptist Church committed to preaching and teaching the Word of God, to prayer, and to building godly families in Christ.

Our Commitments

Here at CBC, we are committed to the Word of God, to Prayer, and to one another.

Our Vision

It is our vision to build strong godly families through sound Biblical teaching in order to equip them to reach out to those in our community and around the world with the love of Jesus Christ.

Our Purpose

Cosperville Baptist Church exists for five reasons.  They are: Evangelism, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others, Worship, glorifying God together, Fellowship, spending time together, Disacipleship, growing in our spiritual walk, and Ministry, serving God with our lives.

Our Pastor

Our pastor is Jim Barnes.  He is orginally from Long Island, New York.  He served our country in the United States Navy aboard a nuclear powered submarine at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  It was while he was stationed in Hawaii that he came to know Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.

He left the military in August of 1991 to follow the Lord's calling into full-time ministry.  He graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Christian Ministry from the International Bible College in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1996.

He then left Hawaii to receive a Master of Divinity from the Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.  It was there where he met his wife, Charlene.  She is a native of Scranton, Pennsylvania and also is a graduate of the Baptist Bible College.  They currently have two daughters, Lauren age 6 and Kara age 3.

Our pastor began his ministry here at CBC in December of 2001.  This coming year will be his eighth year of ministry here at our church.
